CB Registration Marks - Use on company letterheads

B

Bob the QE

We currently use the registrars mark and the ISO9001:2000 logo on our letter head. When we accomplish our AS registration we will be looking at doing the same. This practice was in place when I arrived and it has been my experience in the past to stay away from this practice. For me it is personnel prefferance not to use it but going forward I want to way all the pro's and con's. Any one care to share the good, the bad and the ugly?

I always look forward to the info provided.

Thanks:)

Re: CB Registration Marks

My clients like to use my CB logo because it helps with alignment of the supply chain. Since we have registered a significant number of the main OE's, using the same Cb down the supply chain helps to build confidence. Putting it on your letter head may be one way of letting the world know who you've partnered with.

Con? Well, if you choose a CB who loses their Accreditation, or you decide not to continue with, you run a risk of having to destroy a quantity of stationery.....

Re: CB Registration Marks

Thank You Andy,

If I may, what possible problems could we run into in the use of such a mark. I was concerned about improper use (unintentional) that may cause the company finacial loss. I am not big on copy right laws and such.

Thanks again:thanks:

Re: CB Registration Marks

The following is from ISO 17021 concerning the usage of certification marks:

This mark shall not be used on a product or product packaging seen by the consumer or in any other way that may be interpreted as denoting product conformity.

8.4.2 A certification body shall not permit its marks to be applied to laboratory test, calibration or inspection reports, as such reports are deemed to be products in this context.

8.4.3 The certification body shall require that the client organization
a) conforms to the requirements of the certification body when making reference to its certification status in communication media such as the internet, brochures or advertising, or other documents,
b) does not make or permit any misleading statement regarding its certification,
c) does not use or permit the use of a certification document or any part thereof in a misleading manner,
d) upon suspension or withdrawal of its certification, discontinues its use of all advertising matter that contains a reference to certification, as directed by the certification body (see 9.63 and 966),
e) amends all advertising matter when the scope of certification has been reduced,
f) does not allow reference to its management system certification to be used in such a way as to imply that the certification body certifies a product (including service) or process,
g) does not imply that the certification applies to activities that are outside the scope of certification, and
h) does not use its certification in such a manner that would bring the certification body and/or certification system into disrepute and lose public trust.

8.4.4 The certification body shall exercise proper control of ownership and shall take action to deal with incorrect references to certification status or misleading use of certification documents, marks or audit reports.

Re: CB Registration Marks

Also, when you received your certificate, your registrar probably sent you a document that outlines acceptable and unacceptable uses of the certification mark. See if you can dig that up, or contact your registrar and see if they can send you a new one if you misplaced it.

Re: CB Registration Marks

It'll likely be an almost cut and paste from the info Sidney posted - but it's worth asking.

In my experience, it's the Sales/marketing people who get a little carried away when using the various logos etc. They put it all over company product literature and, if that literature lists locations not covered in the certification, that can cause problems. Many, many years ago, a large manufacturer I was auditing used the logos etc and listed their service centers - which weren't registered (at the time) = non-conformity!

In Britain, a fleet of trucks (lorries) had the (then) CB's accreditation symbol plastered all over them - and the Queen didn't allow that! I think they had to arrange for some special dispensation instead of repaint the trucks!
