Hi all,

I am in process of hiring for a VP of Quality for a large medical devices company. From your point of view what are the key soft and technical skills that make or break someone for this role?

Soft skills:
- ability to be flexible and find creative solutions to problems that fit that company rather than doing what worked before at a different company
- ability to inspire people to be their best and provide them the tools they need to be autonomous in their positions, including ability to delegate
- ability to stand their ground while remaining likeable
- teamwork attitude, never an us-against-them mindset

Technical:
- auditing experience
- experience with various quality systems, large and small, or for low risk and high risk devices
- previous experience performing lower level quality tasks
- writing and grammar skills
- thorough knowledge of design control and risk management and the interactions between the two
