Warranty Compared to Non-Conformance

I recently moved to a new company in HVAC as SQE in order to implement Supplier Quality, right now there are no standards. My background was automotive stampings and rollforming. They are using Warranty and non-conformance interchangeably. What would be the best way to define the difference?
 
There are many potential differences, but the most obvious is that warranty includes a good or service that was delivered to an external customer and found problematic, whereas a non-conformance could include warranty but also include anything internal such as scrap or rework.
