ISO 9001:2008 Certification Scope does not mention "manufacturing"

Hello,

Below is the scope of activities covered by our company ISO 9001:2008 certificate but we have challenged by some of our clients that our certification scope does not mention "manufacturing"...

"Provision of Sales, Design, Engineering, Production and After Sales Support of xxx."

We tried to explain that "Production" means "Manufacturing".

Can anyone share their expert opinions on the significant difference? Is that a mistake of using production over manufaturing?

Thanks...

Also...you could say that "production" encompasses: manufacturing, inspection, packaging, shipping, planning, etc.

Or just point out that your registrar accepts it.

Sorry to just pile on but I believe Scott K said it best. Production encompasses more than just the manufacturing. Do you think there is a deeper issue that these clients have and they're using this as a way to force change?

From Oxford Dictionary:
Production (noun): The action of making or manufacturing from components or raw materials, or the process of being so manufactured

I think they are just being pendantic or not at ease with english language
