Wooden pallet in storage areas according to GMP

Hello everybody,

I work in a dietary supplement industry and are seeking GMP certification. In GMP 455-2 it says that for the use of wooden pallets in GMP manufacturing areas, they must be heat treated. I would like to know if this "manufacturing area" is limited to the clean area (processing itself) or also includes raw material and finished product storage areas?

I can't say for sure on the pharma side, but I would not limit the "manufacturing area" to just the "production" space.

I presume heat treating pallets provide some safety benefits so why shouldn't those be extended to incoming and storage?
