Seeing that exemptions can be made is clause 7 and we are a machine shop that produces a product/part per the customer's print, can we take an exclusion on 7.1 section F?

:thanx:

Yes. Unless the customer gives you requirements and authority, you have no control over use or maintenance of the product.

Re: AS9100 7.1 Planning of product realization

A very old thread but my question relates to 7.1 (f)...so I see it already has a home.

Can someone please provide insight into "resources to support the use and maintenance of the product" and how this should be interpreted.

Is this intended to reflect after-sales support activities? ie. warranty claims, returns, spares etc.. or something quite different. We have a "Return to Manufacturer" process so I'm thinking that may cover it.

You are correct in your thinking (7.5.1.4)

As was pointed out in the above post by dsanabrea, 7.5.1f and 7.5.1.4 are somewhat redundant.

The IAQG in their clarifications of AS9100C adds some interesting insight.

7.5.1.4
If a company does not provide service to products after the part is delivered to a customer, can they take exclusion to clause 7.5.1.4?

It depends. IAQG 9100, Clause 7.5.1.4, Post-Delivery Support, is applicable when servicing of your product is performed after initial delivery. The location of the service is irrelevant no matter whether the servicing is taking place at your facility or in the field. If a warranty is applicable to the product, then the servicing clause 7.5.1.4 is applicable.

Since Clause 7.5.1.4 is contained in section 7, it is possible to take a justified exclusion for portions of this clause that may not be applicable.
