AS9100 and FAIR (First Article Inspection Report)

Q

Hi,

Just a quick question: do you need AS9000 approval in order to complete a FAIR?

Thanks in advance.

OK...,

I may be a bit behind the times...

Do you need AS9100 in order to complete a FAIR?

If not, is there ANY specific requirement?

The reason I ask is that we have been receiving quotation requests which seem to indicate that a FAIR may be required.

We are approved to ISO 9001 and AC7004 (Nadcap).

Thanks.

No, you do not need to be AS9100 compliant or certified to perform an FAI.

Furthermore, AS9100 will not tell you HOW to perform the FAI, only that you need to have a system for doing so.

However, it sounds as if your customer is requiring FAI. If so, do they specify AS9102 compliance? AS9102 will provide a detailed method for performing an FAI, including forms to be used.

Thanks for your reply.
1. Our customer doesn’t specify the requirement of FAI report, because it is a continuous and repeated order for us sine 2016 ( No change in dimension, specification, drawing or raw material, no change in the CNC program also no change in the operator since 2016)
2. We have internal system of First setting approval inspection report for every part
3. Our customer doesn’t ask us to comply with AS9102
4. We don’t get any chance of making any first part to perform FAI
Only the certification body auditors during stage II audit have raised NC and asking us to perform FAI. They are not understanding that the parts are regular and continuous production since 2016 without change in any of the parameter. So in which stage now we have to do the FAI. Is it NC or not. Therefore, we have come to the forum for having clarity.
