I knew that Metallurgy degree would be useful one day...

Hi Cari,

It stands for 'Solution'.

Do a search on that and you should get loads of links. Here's a brief excerpt from the Avesta glossary:

Solution Anneal/Heat Treatment

Heating an alloy to a suitable temperature, holding at that temperature long enough to cause one or more constituents to enter into solid solution, and then cooling fast enough to hold these constituents in solution. In stainless steel the constituent in question is normally chromium carbide.

So, you were S O L looking under "Sol", ehh?

Keeping it clean, see:

http://www.acronymfinder.com/af-query.asp?String=exact&Acronym=SOL&Find=Find

:topic: You beat me to that (SOL) by an eyelash.:agree1: I see that the linked site lists one possibility as "Short on" luck. Seems to lack the color of the original, don't you think? It reminds me of the acronym "snafu" being listed in one of my dictionaries as deriving from "situation normal, all fouled up."

Great site for Covers

This is a bit :topic: but I guess that's OK now that Cari has her answer?

The last few posts prompted me to recommend a great UK site at

www.businessballs.com

which offers free materials, articles, and ideas for ethical personal and organizational development, compassionate leadership, self-help and self-fulfillment. It's also full of jokes, anecdotes, lists and countless other sections of information which is both entertaining and useful.

The highest recommendation I can give is that it is the only site that I browse as much as the Cove.

The reason the last few posts reminded me of this site is that one of their many sections is devoted to a great list of acronyms, running to over 90 pages when I copied-and-pasted it into Word. I particularly recommend the sub-section on Original Doctor's Shorthand Acronyms (ODSA) near the end of the list.

And before you ask - no, I don't have any vested interest in the site! I just think that it'll float your average Cover's boat.

Enjoy!

(P.S. Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends)
