Maggie - if you're doing an internal audit, you shouldn't be using the standard as your starting point and certainly not auditing using requirements from the standard! You really should be doing a process based audit and considering these two aspects (perhaps) as you do the audit, not focusing on them in their own right.

So tell us, what is your audit criterion? ISO 9001?

Sorry about that I am auditing to actually both ISO standards 9001 and 14001

So that's part of the issue - you really, really should be auditing your own QMS/EMS, not to the ISO standards...(like I said and will continue to say:notme:)

Depends upon whether it's a compliance type of audit or not.

If anyone does have any suggestions for general questions (as the OP requested ideas for), they will be appreciated.

What are you going to be auditing to these specific parts of the standards? Before we can throw out any meaningful ideas about questions - other than some fairly non-specific types, which frankly, won't tell you very much - can you help us to help you with some background to where your audit focus is...Industry? Process? Site?

Compliance of what when audited against what?

As you know both standards are wide open to use/interpretation etc, so if you build a question based on the standard's requirements what can you determine?

Even CB auditors base - in my experience - their audit on the client's QMS/EMS and then relate issues they find, back to the standard, therefore. It would be a difficult task, except for the most experienced auditor to use ISO 9001/14001 as the only audit criterion...

Re: Internal Audit on Technical Resources & Work Environment

Not saying it's the only criteria. That is what we're trying to determine - What the OP has and is auditing to. It doesn't sound like the OP is auditing to internal procedures, but rather is auditing in a compliance mode citing "Technical Resources & Work Environment" which are requirements of the standard. While most address these in their systems manual, they are typically not procedures within a company. If the company does not have procedures for "Technical Resources" and for "Work Environment", there is nothing to audit to other than compliance to the standard.

Hi there again

Went and asked a fellow employee some suggestions. I work in a manufacturing company and this is one of our proceses. Our maintenance manager is the owner of this process. I think I have an ideal on where I would like to go now and I would like to thank you all for your support
