Information on AAR M1003 Registration

I am trying to find out more information about AAR M1003 registration.
I know that AAR M1003 is an add on to ISO 9001.
So far, I have found that only SRI can provide certificates.
Are there any other organizations that can provide certification services to AAR M1003?

What are the additional requirements in the standard?

Thanks for your help

M-1003 is not an add-on to 9001; they are separate standards that can be implemented independently. For the M-1003, the AAR determines your auditor.

See the thread Andy mentioned, and a couple of others on M1003, for more info.

It was discussed here...http://elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=28190

An alternative is the IRIS scheme which Bombardier favor, I believe...

I would not consider IRIS an alternative - they are for different markets. The AAR spec is primarily North America, and IRIS is primarily Europe, but expanding. IRIS includes all the 9001 requirements, plus some. We maintain all three certificates.

A company is now interested in voluntary registration with AAR M1003.

What us the difference in terms of the audit between voluntary and regular audits?
Are there any cove members that went through these audits?
Any advice related to this certification?
Can you recommend any consultants who are experienced with this process?

Many thanks for your help.

In short - No, see below -

Is ISO 9001 Registration or M-1003 Certification Required?

"Currently, if you supply a commodity or service to the AAR that is on their register, the certification under M-1003 is required. Reciprocal certification and registration based on the ISO 9001 standard is an option.

Remember, if you seek reciprocity for certification based on the ISO 9001 standard, you must address all of the AAR M-1003 criteria.

Each customer and contractor may have different requirements. Be sure to contact your customers for their expectations and current information."

Note this is an older brochure - ISO 9001 is no longer reciprocal. - They key to it all is in your product line, and how directly you supply it. If it is on the register list , you will need to be under AAR, unless you supply a tier 2 or 3 (or 4), in that case, ISO 9001 is generally sufficient. It depends how "far away" you are from the final customer, and how critical the component is.
At the time we had a quote for 16-18,000 for the total cost over 3 years, so much depends on the value of your product line.
