Internal Laboratory Scope

Our company does not perform calibration. We send out any equipment to an external certified supplier to calibrate. Under IATF, are we still required to have an internal laboratory scope? Are boundary samples, signed by the customer, considered to be part of an internal lab scope?

Yes, if you perform any measurement or evaluation of product you are required to have an internal lab scope. Your boundary samples should be included in the scope, and in your calibration schedule.

@gpi3000 - just to expand, "internal laboratory" is not just calibration. It can be any lab type as the clause states Inspection, Test or Calibration Services (e.g.chemical analysis, SIMS, FA, Stress, etc.)

The definition of laboratory in IATF 16949 is
laboratory
facility for inspection, test, or calibration that may include but is not limited to the following:
chemical, metallurgical, dimensional, physical, electrical, or reliability testing

laboratory scope
controlled document containing
- specific tests, evaluations, and calibrations that a laboratory is qualified to perform;
- a list of the equipment that the laboratory uses to perform the above; and
- a list of methods and standards to which the laboratory performs the above

LOL, I was looking up a GPI300 standard too...

Imagine if only there was some magical way to correct or modify documented information. Like an EDIT button (other than the first minute or whatever it is) or something like that! The world would be such a better place.
