Barriers to TQM implementation in Construction Industry - M Level Dissertation Topic

Hello there,

I am doing my Masters in Science in Project Management at University of Greenwich, London, and this year I am submitting my Dissertation. I am writing my dissertation on TQM and my aim is to find out Impediments to TQM implementation in construction industry, to fulfil the objective of my research I need to locate the position of TQM in construction industry in current era and I have to look for the barriers to TQM implementation at the same time.

I have heard about this forum from my friend and i thought this forum could be useful to me in collecting information about TQM, can any body guide me for this research.

I have to submit 12000 words and deadline is in August.

I have completed 3 chapters i.e. Introduction to research, Literature Review and Research Methodology which were checked by my tutor last week and she asked me to re-do Literature Review cause it was containing references which were more than 5 years old. she wants all new references and unfortunately i tried hard to get new researche relevant to my topic but I am unable to find.

i would really appreciate help from someone.

While I can't speak for construction, I think you'd find that the typical problems faced are similar regardless of the industry. Perhaps you can cite some references outside of construction in order to draw some parallels. At the very least, it may assist in identifying some keywords that can then be searched.

I would also try using the advanced search on future if you haven't already. Search for ".pdf" and ".doc" in order to help reduce some of the noise that appears in every search. A quick search of the keywords "construction", "TQM", and "barrier" produced 913 results:

Another option you might pursue is to contact some of the larger consulting organization and/or constructions companies pose your questions directly. I'd bet there is somebody at the Cove who can assist you.

yes, you are quite right, if i look outside construction industry i could get some barriers which are common in all industries.

do you know any of the consultants who can help me, as i study in construction sector i should focus on the construction industry. But it is more than possible that there should some common barriers.

well, i am correcting my first chapter which is introduction and in which i have to put text on the problems an organisation could have without tqm. got any idea ?

Hi, Siddharajgohil, and welcome!

One impediment that is pretty much universal is the reluctance to change. There is a thread here that I can't locate right now, but that discusses the issue of change and/or culture change that you might find interesting. I'll try to find it later.

yes, i got a little information on Resistance to Change that a new Programme may bring in an organisation,

Hello everybody,

sorry, i was away, but now i am back and am still looking for barriers to TQM implementation in construction industry. i had done quite a lot on the barriers, but they were turned down by my tutor as they were a bit old. According to her i should concentrate on the recent ones. And i find it difficult to look for the recent ones.

Please help me out of this.
