List of Global Medical Device Nomenclature (GMDN) Codes

If you scroll down to my post of 26th January 2012 you will find a link to the Australian TGA regulatory site. If you type in orthopaedic (note the English spelling - there are a limited number of entries with the US spelling) you will get a long listing of ARTG orthopaedic related submissions. The actual documents are the individual pdfs on the LHS of the list. This supplies the GMDN for the submission at the bottom of the page along with the definition. As in my per previous posts - a warning - these may not be up to date/current. The most recent submissions (high ARTG numbers) are most likely to be current GMDNs. For example ARTG 236223 submitted in April this year lists a current GMDN. That's about the best I can do for you - life is a risk!

If anyone is into In Vitro Devices there is a listing of GMDNs (strong note -IVDs only) at the EDMA site if anyone is interested.

I do not know how EDMA keep them up to date, but somebody might find this souce useful (it may already be a well known site for all I know since I'm not into this particular area of medical devices).

The EDMA website has been incorporated into the MedTechEurope platform, so it looks like the IVD GMDN information no longer exists.

I hindsight I am not so sure the IVD GMDNs would have been too useful in the end, as IVDs seem to be very specific (though I do not know how generic they can be, if at all). Case in point, although I cannot access the actual (GMDN) reference numbers, the number of separate records for IVDs in the database number 13415! Sorry about that.

Great info here! Do you happen to know if the UMDNS resource is still of any use as compared to your original post back in 2012? I'm trying to dig up the appropriate info on stand-alone imaging software (PACS).

The UMDNS resource is still available at the ECRI site (I know since you have to renew membership for free each year). Whether or not it is of any use – that is debatable. I still quote the relevant UMDNS number in device Technical Files, however the GMDN seems to take precedent e.g. by the FDA’s GUDID and the Australian TGA’s databases.
