IATF 16949 Cl. 7.2.3 - Internal Auditor Competency and Records

Q

QSAGUY

Clause 7.2.3 Where training is provided to achieve competency, documented information shall be retained to demonstrate the trainer's competency with the above requirements.

Has anyone requested training records of the trainer for offsite auditor training? Or am I reading this clause wrong? I've recently requested the training records from AIAG and they provided it so I'm guessing they agree with my interpretation.

Have you contacted the Organization that provided the trainer to have them provide your organization with copies of their qualifications?

I would guess that having a copy of the Training Organization's Trainer's qualifications, should meet the intent of the requirements.

But, that is my opinion.

Competency would be based upon Educational level, any Professional Acknowledgments and/or Certificates, and a Resume/CV.

Maybe someone more familiar with the TS might be of better help in this matter. We have many experts in the Cove on the TS requirements.

AIAG did supply the competency record of the trainer but the new problem is that the training records provided by them doesn't have the name of the trainer. Can't win! :deadhorse:

Hi!

No problem with that, while recording the training record of trainee, write name of trainer and training agency (AIAG in your case). Certificate of training (Of trainee- given by AIAG) and competency certificates of AIAG trainer would be sufficient.

No training agency generally records name of trainer, therefore it is fine.

Its up-to you how you maintain the record.

I hope it helps.

Thanks,
Amit

hi. maybe this is a bit out of topic. How if organization choose to achieve competency of internal auditor without training? any idea how to provide evidence to demonstrate their competency? because the standard states where training is provided... so I interpret it is open to any other options to achieve internal auditor competency.

IMHO as long as the organization can demonstrate competence on auditing against the requirements of IATF 16949, including the use of core tools, training records of the trainer won't matter. Competence can be obtained not only from training, but also from self study, OJT, actual use of core tools, auditing experience, work experience and even education.

I learned the core tools since 1998 from my earlier manufacturing experience and actual application and been an auditor at the same period (I learned on-the-job). I've done first and second party audits for the automotive sector since QS 9000 up to the time of TS 16949:2009. If an auditor would ask to demonstrate my trainer's competency, I may not be able to satisfy him/her because I was trained by the greatest teacher of all - i.e. EXPERIENCE:cool:
