Hi Cladtek,
I'll forward you one tomorrow when I'm back at work. Just got through my API Q1 on-site audit last week, (cleanly, I'm happy to say) so it's still pretty fresh.

Here you go. This revision was done to comply with the new Q1 spec, so anytime you see text in italics, it represents a change done to satisfy Q1. This is true for Appendix 1 as well.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info.

It is looking very like what I am heading for.

Where did you have most of your problems

Hi Cladtek,
My audit was clean, so I didn't really have any big problems. When converting to Q1, we already had most of the Q1 elements in place, because most of them are hold-overs from ISO 9000:1994. We just needed to specifically mention them in the QA Manual.

The audit was done with a checklist, and pretty mechanical. It's a different sort of audit from ISO. My auditor mentioned that API audits the Monogram part of their spec more rigidly than other parts, especially where the logo is painted on the part. Removal of the logo when there is a reject in-process seemed to be an issue with some plants he audits. We don't apply the logo to the parts we make, (the monogram is on the box) so it was not an issue here.

It was 4 long days, but 4 clean days.

What does your company make?

WE are makers of a special corrosion resistent pipe which falls under an API spec.

We are looking for use of the momnogram.

Seems like we are stuck with "Design control Process" but the extent of design is very limited.

Are you ISO certified? If so, your ISO design control process should cover you for the API audit.

If you're not ISO, I'd suggest you read through the threads on design control in the Cove, as they'll give you some good direction.

Most of our products (chain, clutches, bearings) are decades old designs that were grandfathered in. We don't do a lot of new designs, but do a lot of variations to existing designs. The change process is really more useful and effective for us than a full blown design process. Every company is different...

Re: Seeking an API Q1 Quality Manual Example - Trying to convert an existing ISO 9000

Hi Rosie A,
I am just getting a small company off the ground, and we are starting all systems from scratch, your post has saved me weeks of work and I want to say a great big thankyou for taking the time and effort to help pleanty of people like me out.
I would love any additional information you might be able to share in regards to API Q1 accreditation, like how did you structure your tier 1-5 documents.

cheers
