Power Cord Length Issue - Medical Device Electrical Safety

Hi All,

PS - I am new to electircal safety so do forgive my question if its naive.

My company makes a device which has passed electrical saftety testing with a 4m H05VV-F cable.
But the business finds it difficult to order an off the shelf 4m cable with the plug cleared at present (its a fused plug with a C13 connector), bespoke and made to order quantities are too high for this product.

My question is this:
can a 3m or 5m H05VV-F cable be used? Or is there a reason why this would not be a great idea?

I appreciate the response.
Thanks

As stated - it would be a change that you would have to notify to any Certifying Body test house.

If you used a 5m cable the protective earth impedance may be increased.

A change in cable length may make a difference for EMC tests. There are EMC tests that can be limited for cables that are 3m maximum, so a 5m cable might add additional test requirements.
