Approving myself as a Supplier - Should we be on our own ASL

Based on the information given and my experience (25+ in the medical device industry) the answer at the end of the day is NO.

Rational simply put, business partner's (outside) with whom you contractually purchase components and services from are to be considered suppliers. Your supplier assessment and approval (to the ASL) programs are designed to mitigate potential risk to product quality from external sources.
On the other hand "internal suppliers" are qualified differently. Some sources of acceptance activities include: equipment and process validation, employee training, internal audits, etc.

It sounds to me as if you are identifying them as a "supplier" in your system merely so that the shop floor quality performance measurable's fall into the same system that you use to manage the performance of your external suppliers......and this practice is merely for convenience and efficiency, and in short is the same thing I would do.

Much success,
Larry
