So, nowadays, in the USA, most CB’s have both full time employees and non-exclusive contract auditors.

In other countries exclusivity clauses might be legal.
It is also common in India. Many auditors can be seen working with different registrars and some provide consultancy services as well (not to the same organization they are auditing).
Consultant details of organizations are generally reviewed prior to audit planning to ensure impartiality.

The answer for the OP, is surely, "It depends".
As has been mentioned, it will depend on the individual agreements that you sign with the "Registrars", Legal/Industry requirements in the country/countries where you propose to work and, no doubt, a whole host of other reasons/restrictions
