Ford's Global 8-D Root Cause Problem Solving Process

Does anyone know if Ford's Global 8D Process is utilized by General Motors, Chrysler or any of the top auto manufactures? Is the Global 8D endorsed by the AIAG?

Each manufacturer will have its own version of problem-solving forms and tools. AIAG has no part in endorsing any of them. What prompted the question?
