How to determine a sample size for comparison purposes ?

All,
We have a system thats generated data back in 2006 on a daily basis. We want to compare some electronic data files (some results and metadata) to the printouts. Instead of comparing every single data file (~7000 records) we want to take a random set of data from 2006 til now.

Is it possible to determine this sample size with Minitab?

It would depend on what type of test you want to perform. Minitab can determine sample sizes for several different tests under Stats > Power and Sample Size. I have attached a screen shot of the menu options.
