National Structural Steel Specification 7th Edition - Do I now have to be audited against ISO 3843-3 as well as ISO 9001?

Hi,

First time post. My company manufacturers Structural Steel items, based in the UK. We work under ISO 9001 & NSSS regulations. The new 7th edition of the NSSS regulations have changed the System acceptance rules to include ISO 3834-3.

We already work to a Factory Production Control BS EN 1090-1 system , execution class 2. Assessed and audited by SCCS.

My question concerns whether I now have to be audited against ISO 3843-3 as well as ISO 9001. Do any members have experience of ISO 3834-3

As you know welding is a special process requiring validation.

But certification of your welding processes is a separate service for which you may choose to pay if it affords competitive advantage or is specified by a customer, for example:

ISO 3834 Certification from Lloyd's register

In any case it is best to ensure your welding subsystem within your QMS conforms to ISO 3834, then if your company needs such certification you will be ready.
