Dear Experts,

Good Day! :bigwave:

we are an ISO 9001 certified company for long now going for ISO 14001. so do we have to separately develop the procedures common in both standards or QMS procedures are sufficient (like DDC, Internal Audit, CPA)?

If it was me, I'd be seeing which of your current procedures currently comply with 14001 and which don't. I'd then be trying to update the current procedures where needed to meet the requirements of the new standard.

You could, and may well need to, create separate procedures, but if you can integrate it's going to save you a lot of work on implementation later down the track.

Best not to give employees the impression that your organizational management system is documented purely to obtain or keep a certificate or conform to a standard.

After all, the requirements are meant to come from top management!

Keep separate from your documented procedures any cross-reference to the standard.

You could, for example, include a conformity matrix in the document that describes your system at a high level (usually called the manual).

I agree with both replies so far, and I would go further and suggest that you think of:
- your management system (which includes your processes) as "how you run the business"
- your procedures as "a description of how you run the business", and
- ISO9001 & 14001 as standards to assess how that management system, and its description, meets specific Q / E requirements.

At best you may need to amend a few processes (and procedures) to add or change a step, to ensure that you comply. It is the same system, just viewed in a different way. Avoid duplication at all costs!
