5.5.2 Management Representative

I believe that in a tier 1 automotive corporation the plant manager or the quality manager of the facility should take on this role especially with reporting to corporate on performance and opportunities for improvement. Others I know believe it should be someone at corporate level and to me that doesn't make any sense. I reviewed the IATF guidance manual and it had nothing. What is your opinion?

As I feel, MR should be a person belongs to Manufacturing plant, heor she should be located I mean should be based on plant only and not a person sitting at corporate office. I still remember the wording of my TUV auditor who said to my Unit Head that MR should be a person whose Voice should be considered as Unit Head's Voice irrespective of Hierarchical Postion.

I encourage not using the Quality Manager as the Management Rep. Instead, I recommend someone from the Manufacturing arena. the reason is simply to keep the QMS from being totally a "Quality" thing, and make it an "Organizational" thing.

Mr

Obvious, top mgt. shall appoint a member of management who, irrespective of other responsibilities,.... to be MR... I know one Deputy Managing Director of a Japanese MNC (Tier 1 to Big Three) has been appointed as the Corporate MR and the respective Quality Manager at sites as the site MR. This organization has been certified to TS2 by TUV.

By and large, most organizations would appoint the Quality Director/Manager to be the MR but I have also knew a couple of Plant Managers who are the MRs.

The CBs auditors do not have to right to "choose" their MR but it is the top mgt. of the audited organization. I have come to know that at times, the CB auditors have asked why does the top mgt. appoint this particular person to be the MR.

As far as he have performed the responsibilities and authorities as defined in 5.5.2 (a) - (c) and Note, I am happy with that!

Thanks for the input. I will go with two MR's. Our corporate quality manager and each plant quality manager.

2 Mr????

Pls. take note that the TS requirement spelled out that a member of the management team shall be appointed as a MR.... I guess you can only has one MR. If you decided to have 2, I think you can designate a deputy MR to assist the MR. I do not think that you can have 2 MRs.....
