Is clause 7.1 (product realisation) relevant to wholesaler?

Hi all,

I'm new here and have been given the task of getting our company ISO9001 accredited. We are a wholesaler and dont manufacture anything ourselves - we just handle product in and out of the warehouse. Can anyone tell me if clause 7.1 is therefore not applicable to us?

Thanks everyone!

Welcome to the Cove.

You are in the service industry. Just substitute the word product with the word service and you can see the picture a lot clearer.

Just like a product, a service needs to be planned and if the output of this planning for a product is a quality plan, similarly, the out put for a service can be in the form of a service quality plan.

Yes, 7.1 is applicable to you.

Your production (7.5.1) is mostly that of filling an order. Your planning for production (7.1) is mostly planning on how to fill the order, or in other words the creation of a pick ticket and planning related to how to handle orders.

As mentioned, product and service are one in the same as far as the standard is concerned.

On a side note, registrars will be accredited, not your organization. Certified and registered are equivalent in definition, but you should not say that your organization is accredited. Your company will have its QMS certified/registered to the ISO 9001:2008 standard.

It's a small point but the terminology is important. ;)
