ISO 9001:2015 - 8.4 - 8.4.1 - Re-Evaluation of Suppliers

9001:2015 8.4 - 8.4.1 Control of externally provided products and services.

The standard states we will determine and apply criteria for the evaluation, selection, monitoring of performance, and re-evaluation of vendors.

I am hung up (smack me) about these four terms.

Evaluation is about the assessment of progress of existing vendors.
Selection is about the choosing of new vendors.
Monitoring of performance is about subsequent activity - after approval.
Re-evaluation is..........what???? The three terms above seem to have already covered all of the bases.

P.S. - first Quality System - not certified to 2008.

Re-evaluation would be the results after approval (and monitoring), to see if they are still meeting the needs of interested parties. If not, then during the re-evaluation cycle they could be changed if/as necessary.

Webster Dictionary: Evaluate "to determine the significance, worth, or condition of usually by careful appraisal and study"

Maybe I have still confused you, and maybe even confused me. Maybe I need to the morning to have more clarity

Coury thank you. I think between you and Mr. Govind Ramu (I just found this on-line - slide 6 http://www.hksq.org/Quality_in_Outsourcing_ISO9001_2015_perspective.pdf ) this case has been cracked! I didn't understand that there is a serial relationship between Evaluation-Selection-Monitoring-Re-evaluation.

I would think re-evaluation could also pertain to follow up after a supplier has screwed up, which was discovered from monitoring. Would you not re-evaluate after they claimed they had fixed the problem?

Nothing is permanent. So Evaluation is also not.
Establish your criteria for re-evaluation.... Like:
* Supplier corrective action closure
* Supplying after a long gap
* Supplier change of location
* Supplier change of a process / added a new process effecting your part
* You add on him a new part to make and supply
* You increase your buy quantity on the supplier
* Supplier management / executive change
* Your periodic supplier audit
.
..
... Guess these or any one of these will trigger you for a re-evaluation.

You can currently buy the Malaysian version MS ISO 9001:2015 for 50 Malaysian Ringgit. That's less than 12 US Dollars or 738 Indian Rupees. The content is identical to the version you can buy directly from ISO.
