Question About Flat Head Screw Specification

P

Phil Fields

This may seem like an odd question, but I am trying to determine how to order the correct 8-32 x1/2" Phillips Head Flat Head Screw. The item I am concerned about is the angle of the head/countersink.

The short story: I have a part with a specified countersink of 82°, the actual countersink is 90°.

We have recently outsourced this part and the supplier built it, 82° countersink and used a 90° screw. Now the flat head screw does not sit flush.

Is there a standard angle for flathead screws? I have looked and do not see this information specified.

Thank you,
Phil :thanks:

The two standard c'sink angles are 82° and 100°. Your supplier is probably using a 100° screw in an 82° c'sink. Anyone who sells screws would know this.

Jim is right. Have a look at ANSI Flat head screw. The prescribed angles are 100* and 81*
