Re: My Class Assignment on Quality Assurance Gurus for Your Review - Help needed

Hello Chris!

Welcome to The Cove. :bigwave: :bigwave:

Regretfully, that happens quite often; people come here, get what they want, and then disappear. No ongoing effort to contribute and help others.

Did your search here at The Cove Forums provided you with the information you need? Please let us know.

And please, do come back and help others. :agree1:

Again, welcome!

Stijloor.

Thanks Stijloor. A shame about that, but that's the way it goes sometimes I suppose.

I'm still in a bit of a state of shock having entered The Cove (doesn't that sound ominous?! :)) and seen some of the seemingly huge amount of resources that are available. Amazing...

I'd like to think I can find the time to be a regular visitor, and hopefully even contribute if there's anything I can offer. I think I'm pretty well set up to be able to complete the same assignment that Anna did, and have a bit of time up my sleeve so I'm not stressing too much - yet!

Anyways, time to log into the library network and go hunting for some journal or periodical articles for this thing!

Thanks again,
Chris.

Re: My Class Assignment on Quality Assurance Gurus for Your Review - Help needed

Hi folks, this is my first post here. I stumbled onto (into!?) The Cove whilst researching online for this very assignment (same University here in NZ, but a different paper - go figure), and after wading through all of the very thoughtful and generous responses from you all was surprised to find this thread finish so abruptly. Does anyone know what became of Anna's re-submission? Thanks, Chris.
According to her Profile, Anna visited the Cove as recently as this week, so she has not abandoned the Cove. If you are really curious, click on her name at the top of her post and send her an email or Private Message. One of the hallmarks of a Quality professional is the willingness to pursue an answer to a question until one reaches and determines the Root Cause. In most cases, that means going to the original source, NOT counting on anecdotal or unsupported information from intermediaries.

Oh yes! Welcome to the Cove!:bigwave:

Hi Wes, and thanks for the info re Anna's activity. I did actually go to her profile earlier, but decided against contacting her directly (for now at least), instead choosing to do a bit of my own hunting for resources first. It's now 3:45 in the a.m. here, and I'm glad to report I've found some wonderful articles through a local University website, so will wade through those over the next few days and see how I get on.

Thanks also for the welcome. I can see that this is a great bunch of people here. Looking forward to keeping in touch.

PS I didn't notice her last logon, so thanks for pointing out that this info is available.
PPS Anna: If you read this and are compelled to get in touch, please feel free. I'm in Hamilton and am starting the Graduate Diploma in Quality Management this year extramurally through Massey. As you can probably see I've struck the same question you did in the 143.719 Quality Management paper. Cheers, Chris

A link to what you found would be appreciated! The resource may help others.

You only have 3 posts right now (5 posts are needed to post a live link), but put it in without the https:// , spell DOT (rather than putting in a period) and it should work. Or PM me and I'll help you.

Again, thanks!

I'm not sure if that is the case, but many of these papers are copyright protected. I know I run across some really good papers all the time. As a matter of fact, I ran across one the other day on Conveying/interpreting emotion through e-mail.

If they are not copyright, please share with us! Like Marc mentioned, if you have any problems or questions about appropriateness, please contact Marc, one of the administrators, or any of the moderators!

Marc was referring to providing links, not directly posting copyright material.

Good clarification; thanks for bringing it up. If someone else post the articles, we can link to them.

I get my papers through the library, and it requires a password and all. Not sure how links would work for those.

I guess I could find a free download area, and put a link to it!:tg:

It's a bit ironic.. they publish articles to supposedly advance knowledge, and then make them copyright so you can't share them.

Thanks BradM. Okay, stoopid question #1 (possibly of many? :) ) how do I tell if these articles are copyrighted or not? I'm using a link to the ProQuest5000 database through a library website requiring a logon ID and password, but the site is down at the moment so I can't see if there are any references to copyright or not for the articles. Either way (and I'm not sure if I should be saying this or not) I just opened the articles through Firefox, and copied and pasted them into Word for future reference. The details of some of the more relevant/interesting ones are, in no particular order:
1.) The quality gurus - Their approaches described and considered
Bendell, Tony, Penson, Roger, Carr, Samantha. Managing Service Quality. Bedford: 1995. Vol. 5, Iss. 6; pg. 44, 5 pgs
2.) What Crosby Says
Don M Nielsen. Quality Progress. Milwaukee: Sep 2004. Vol. 37, Iss. 9; pg. 26, 2 pgs
3.) What Deming Says
Martin D Merry. Quality Progress. Milwaukee: Sep 2004. Vol. 37, Iss. 9; pg. 28, 3 pgs
4.) What Juran Says
Maureen Bisognano. Quality Progress. Milwaukee: Sep 2004. Vol. 37, Iss. 9; pg. 33, 2 pgs
5.) What Feigenbaum Says
Paul M Schyve. Quality Progress. Milwaukee: Sep 2004. Vol. 37, Iss. 9; pg. 30, 4 pgs
6.) A grounded theory research approach to building and testing TQM theory in operations management
Rodney McAdama, , , Denis Leonardb, Joan Hendersonc and Shirley-Ann Hazlettc
7.) Demise of the gurus
Macdonald, John. The TQM Magazine. Bedford: Dec 1993. Vol. 5, Iss. 6; pg. 5, 2 pgs
8.) Improving on continuous improvement
Steven Williams. CircuiTree. Troy: Jul 2003. Vol. 16, Iss. 7; pg. 56

As I say, I have all of these (and more) in Word format, but 1 - need to post more before I can link to them, and 2 - am not sure if I'm 'allowed to' anyway!?
Thoughts and comments appreciated! Cheers, Chris.
