I've been thinking about a natural gas generator for some years now. My stopping point has been the gas line is across the street, so I have to get the local gas company to run gas to the house and it has to go under the street. I'm about convinced to start the process today. As many years as I've been out here I've never seen an outage over an hour or two, but the future is another thing. I need a 12KW to do the whole house.We feed our beavers here in Lake County REAL TREES so they won't gnaw on the utility poles. Maybe it was a whole flock of woodpeckers?Of course, if there are a lot of dogs in the neighborhood, one side of the pole could be just rotting away from all the moisture.
On a more practical note:
Backup generators are relatively inexpensive compared to the potential loss or damage from a long power outage.
